Bantwal, May 11: “Rapes of women, sexual assaults and murders are happening relentlessly in the state. The state government has failed to stop them. There is no security for women in the district,” alleged state BJP co spokesperson Sulochana G K Bhat.
Speaking in BJP election office at B C Road, she said that Bhagyalaxmi scheme, Madilu, cycle distribution, financial help to self help groups and such pro-women schemes were implemented during the term of Yeddyurappa led government. “But the exploitation of women has increased since Siddaramaiah government came to power. It is unfortunate that more than one thousand murders, rapes and sexual assaults have taken place. Why does the district in-charge minister who speaks in favour of Hindus, never speak about ban on cow slaughter? The words Hindu or temple are not used in the Congress manifesto. Only minorities are being helped and no schemes are implemented for the majority community. The minister here has stood in support of people consuming beef instead of protectors of cattle. If Ramanath Rai is concerned about Hindus, let him announce that he will stop cattle slaughter.
“There are cases of sexual assault pending against Congress state in-charge Venugopal, ministers Tanvir Sait and H Y Meti. Congress does not have ethics to speak about women. BJP government at the center has implemented several schemes for women and has become popular. There is a pro BJP wave in Bantwal this time. BJP candidate Rajesh Nayak will win with majority votes and Yeddyurappa will be the chief minister,” she said.
Responding to a question from media, she said that she is pained that only six women candidates have got the opportunity to contest elections. “However, we are confident of increased priority to women after our government comes to power,” she said.
Zilla panchayat member Kamalakshi Poojary, former zilla panchayat member Nalini B Shetty, BJP Block secretary Ramadas Bantwal and Monappa Devasya were present.
