Mumbai University celebrates World Books Day

Mumbai, May 4: The Kannada department of Mumbai University recently celebrated World Books Day at Kalina campus, Santacruz east.

Head of the department of Kannada, Dr G N Upadhya said that Kannada literature has a history of two thousand years. "It comprises of stories, poems, dramatics, novels, review and research. Poetry is like a rainbow and a lightening. It is intrinsic. We speak more these days but write less. It is not possible to create works without reading the works of others," he said.



Dakshayini Yadavalli sang Janapada songs. Sharada Ambesanga read her poetry. Amritha Shetty, Laxmi Heroor, Jayakar Palan, Shailaja Hegde, Udaya Shetty, Rama Udupa, Jaya Salian, Madhusoodan Rao, Surekha Devadiga, Shivaraja M G, Dinker Chandan, Kumuda and others were present. Dr Poornima S Shetty compered the programme. Durgappa Kotiavar thanked everyone.
