Mumbai, Sep 7: ‘It is a wrong notion that knowledge of a foreign language is more important than knowledge of one’s mother tongue for the development of one’s personality. Working for the development of one’s mother tongue is equal to serving the motherland. One should not shy away from speaking Konkani with pride,’ said Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy former president Eric Ozario.
He was speaking at the Konkani musical evening ‘Remembering Motherland’ organized by the Mumbai wing of Kalaangann under the leadership of Eric Ozario at Hotel Kohinoor International, Andheri on Saturday September 6. The programmes were presented by the Mandd Sobhann troupe.
The programme was presided over by the director of Kalaangann Albert W D’Souza who was also the convener of the musical evening. Speaking on the occasion he lauded the efforts of Eric Ozario in showing to the world that Konkani has nothing to fear from the onset of globalization.
Mandd Sobhann president Louis J Pinto, honorary chief secretary Stany Alvares, Joyce Ozario, administrative committee working president Ronald M Mendonca and Norine R Mendonca, Pius Vas, Roy Castelino, Kalaangann chief organizer Fr Ramesh Francis Bandodkar, members of the organizing committee Francis Rasquinah, Kingsley Nazareth, Naveen D’Souza, Christian Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Vincent Mathias, vice-president Henry Lobo, Dakshina Kannada district Congress youth’s Dolphy D’Souza, Malaika institution chairman Gilbert Baptist, Harry Rebello of Caravan institution, J R Berretto, Harry Sequeira, Maxim Mathias of Roshan Electrical, Daniel Fernandes, Dr Freddy F D’Souza, chairman of Falcon Ronald Baptist and others were present.
Melita Pinto welcomed the gathering while Eric Ozario presented a report on the achievements and activities of Mandd Sobhann. The guests were felicitated by Albert W D’Souza. Titus Noronha compered the programme while Pius Vas proposed the vote of thanks.
