Beltangady, May 2: Former minister Gangadhar Gowda quit the BJP and joined the Congress amid fanfare here on Wednesday May 2.

Gangadhar Gowda was unhappy with the BJP for not giving ticket to his son Ranjan Gowda, who had contested from the BJP in 2013 but was not given the ticket from Beltangady this time. There were reports that he would leave the BJP.

Ranjan and his father Gangadhar were working towards strengthening the party for the last 4 years. Despite their work in the constituency the BJP decided to issue the ticket to Yuva Morcha leader Harish Poonja.

Upset at this development, Gangadhar decided to quit the BJP and joined the Congress after meeting Congress leader D K Shivakumar.

D K Shivakumar and Congress district president Harish Kuamr welcomed Gangadhar into the party on May 2.
