Mangaluru, May 1: The 2009 pub attack which happened in the city had received nation-wide attention. Through a judgement delivered recently, the second JMFC court here had absolved all the accused in the case of the charges levelled against them.
It was widely believed that Sri Ram Sene had engineered the attack on the pub, to register objection to women resorting to consumption of alcohol in the pub. Sri Ram Sene chief, Pramod Muthalik, and 24 others were named as accused in the case.
On the day of judgement
The prosecution had recommended to the district administration to give permission to file an appeal against the said judgement. Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Sasikanth Senthil, has given his approval for the recommendation to file an appeal. With this, the said case, which was treated as closed, will come to the fore again.
The March 12 order of the second JMFC court had held that the prosecution had failed to prove charges against the accused. For questioning this verdict in sessions court, permission from the district magistrate is necessary. The permission sought by a public prosecutor on March 28 was approved by the deputy commissioner on April 28.
