Karkala, Apr 30: Two cases have been filed against Sunil Kumar, MLA and BJP candidate for the upcoming assembly election for the constituency of Karkala, in the Karkala city police station for allegedly violating the election code of conduct.
Procession and public meeting were organized on April 23 by BJP at the ground beside Karkala taluk office. Union minister Rajnath Singh also participated in that meeting and had given the green signal to start the election campaign. During this occasion, it is alleged, Sunil Kumar violated the election code of conduct by providing food for BJP activists in Sri Rama Bhajana Mandir near taluk office.
In his complaint, K Devdas Hegde, officer of snap mobile unit of 122 Karkal legislative constituency, has sited that permitting political activity to take place and providing meal in a religious place like Sri Rama Mandir. Based on this complaint Karkala city police have registered a case against Sunil Kumar.
In another case, on the same day, it is alleged that Sunil Kumar had violated the code of conduct by providing meals for BJP activists at Sri Venugopalakrishna temple. A case was filed in this regard at Karkala city police station by Naveen Kumar, officer of snap mobile unit of 122 Karkal legislative constituency accusing Sunil Kumar of using a religious place like Sri Venugopalakrishna temple for political activity.
