Udupi, Apr 29: Soon after the tragic accident at Perdoor that took the lives of three persons who were transporting pandal to be put for the programme of Prime Minister Modi at Udupi, district in-charg minister Pramod Madhwaraj criticised the BJP for not cancelling the PM's programme out of respect for the deceased.
The tempo plying from Chitradurga hit an electric pole by the side of the road, killing three workers.
Expressing condolences to the kin of the deceased, Pramod Madhwaraj said, "My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the truck accident carrying materials to Modi function."
Criticising the BJP, he said, "It is the height of insensitivity that BJP is going ahead with the function in spite of such a tragic incident. Rahulji (Congress president Rahul Gandhi) would have cancelled the function in such an even I guess," he said.
He also visited the hospital to pay his last respects to the deceased and meet the injured, and pointed out that no local BJP leader had done the same.
"Visited Kmc hospital manipal and paid my last respect to those dead and also saw all patients undergoing treatment in the truck accident carrying materials for Modi function at udupi. No local Bjp leader bothered to visit hospital since morning and I was the first to visit (sic)," he tweeted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a rally on May 1 at MGM College grounds here.
