Bengaluru, Apr 28 (DHNS): The Bengaluru district police along with officers of the election flying squad seized gold jewels worth Rs 12.5 crore from a vehicle, and arrested four people at the Balepura checkpost near Devanahalli on Friday.
The suspects include a gunman and a supervisor of a courier service.
According to a senior police officer, the flying squad, around 10.30 am, intercepted an SUV with four passengers at the checkpost near Channarayapatna hobli and found 42 kg gold in five boxes. All the four were detained.
During the preliminary probe, the suspects produced documents, showing that the jewellery belonged to the Titan company and said it was being transported to Chennai, the officer said.
No EC clearance
They had got the clearance from the customs officials, but had not taken the permission from the Election Commission, he said.
Officials of the statistic survey team later verified the documents.
A case has been registered at the Channarayapatna police station against the staff for violating Election Commission norms.
Rs 10 lakh seized
In yet another case, the flying squad seized unaccounted-for cash of Rs 10.8 lakh at the Sarjapur checkpost near Anekal on Friday. N Kumar, a realtor, was transporting the money in his car.
