Banwtal, Apr 27: The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused Congress president Rahul Gandhi of 'disrespecting' the national song Vande Mataram.
In a video that is now going viral on social media, Gandhi is seen gesturing his watch indicating that he is getting late and allegedly instructing Karnataka Congress in-charge K C Venugopal to cut short the national song Vande Mataram song during the public rally here on Friday April 27. It is said that the functionaries sang just one line so that Rahul Gandhi could rush off to keep his schedule for the day.
BJP was quick to criticize Gandhi and even drew parallels of the original song being cut during Nehru’s time.
"In 1937, Nehru dropped last 3 stanzas of the Vande Mataram just to pacify Jinnah who said the song irks the Muslims Today, RG asked to cut it to just one line, reminding us of INC's total disregard for the song Do we need more reasons for Cong Muktha Bharath? Shame on you, RG" was tweeted from BJP Karnataka’s official handle.
Amit Malviya, the spokesperson and IT cell head of the BJP took to twitter to criticize Gandhi. Posting the video, he tweeted, "Well done Rahul Gandhi."
"He does not have respect for National song. What can we expect from him," slammed former chief minister Sadananda Gowda.
Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa denied the charges and said that the video being circulated was 'fake'.
Sambit Patra, the national spokesperson of the BJP retaliated saying that the video is recorded and aired by news channels. "Congress is blaming BJP for everything," he told a media channel. In a press meet at Udupi, he said, "Someone had to tell him (Rahul Gandhi) to stand. Now that shows the real face of Rahul Gandhi. That shows his patriotism," he said.
On Twitter Patra mocked at Gandhi calling him ‘Sahzada’ and called his action appalling. "Rahul Gandhi directs to cut Vande Mataram to a single line during a public rally in Karnataka ..now this is why we call Him "Sahzada" ..His sense of entitlement is appalling..thinks this country is family property..can at his wish amend the National Song?" he tweeted
