Udupi, Sep 5: Dr V S Acharya, state home minister, inaugurated the district-level teachers' day celebrations at Town Hall, on Friday September 5. Speaking on the occasion, he said that a knowledge commission has already been set up to enhance the quality of education in the state. Its chief objective will be training teachers and human resources development, to lead Karnataka in the education sphere by overcoming all challenges.
Other states in the country are taking pointers from Karnataka which is now a role model. The education department proposes to extend financial grants to all aided schools which set up from 1993–94, added Dr Acharya. He also felicitated ten winners of the excellent teacher award in the district.
They are Kodavoor Sundar, Bajagoli Umesh, Kundapur Tekkatte Susheela G Shiralirka and Garadimajal K Karunakar from the higher primary school category, Tenka Yemal B P Nayak, Gujjady Sampat Kumar Pangala, Inna Prakash Rao, Bidkalkatte Uday, and Perdoor Satish Kumar Shetty, in the high school category. The programme was presided over by MLA Raghupathy Bhat and Dr Mahabaleshwar Rao, principal, T A Pai Education Institute delivered the keynote address.
Syndicate Bank AGM Vasant Nayak, Canara Bank chief manager Vasudevmurti, Dinakar Shetty, Koorady Sitaram, zilla panchayat CEO Prasanna Kumar, public instruction department Akshara Dasoha chief Nagendra Madyastha, zilla panchyat president Raju Poojary, and zilla panchayat health and education overseeing committee president Nayana Ganesh were present.
Anand, deputy director of public instruction, welcomed the gathering. Adve Ravindra Poojary compered the programme while Dr N B Vijay Ballal, managing trustee, Ambalpady Sri Janardhan Mahakali temple, proposed the vote of thanks.
