Mangaluru, Apr 27: Director Abhaya Simha’s Tulu film, ‘Paddayi’ has been adjudged the ‘Best Regional Film’ at the 65th national film awards.
The film has been screened at various film festivals across the world. It will also be screened at the upcoming New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) in May 2018.
The film stars Mohan Shenoy, Bindu Rakshidhi, Chandrahas Ulla, Gopinath Bhat, Avinash Rai, Sadashiv N Rai Ninasam, Shrinidhi Achar, Prabhakar Kapikad, Vani Peruvodi, Ravi Bhat, Mallika and others. The film is based on William Shakespeare’s novel ‘Macbeth’. The backdrop of the film is based on the fishing community.
‘Paddayi’ was shot in a 21-day schedule across Udupi, Malpe, and Padukere. There is Mogaveera-accent Tulu spoken in almost 90 per cent of the film. Sync-sound technology has been used for the first time ever in Coastalwood.
Screen play was handled by Abhaya Simha himself. S Nithyananda Pai has produced the film. Music is composed by Manikanth Kadri. Rakshith karanth is the associate director and editing was handled by Prashanth Pandith.
Abhaya Simha is well known for his national award winning children’s Kannada film ‘Gubbachigalu’. He also brought Malayalam superstar Mamooty in Shikari, a Kannada-Malayalam bilingual film. His third film was Kannada film ‘Sakkare’ starring Ganesh.
