Mangalore, Sep 5: Renowned Islamic scholar Zainul Ulema Alhaji Kota Abdul Khader Musliyar (69), who was functioning as the Kazi of Mangalore region since long, breathed his last on Wednesday September 3, at Malikudinar Hospital, Kasargod.
The religious leader was undergoing treatment for his ailments since the last six months. He has served as the city Khazi in the office located in the central mosque in the city, for the last 18 years. He was also the principal of Kasargod Arshadul Uloom Shariat College. Besides being the secretary of Samasta Kerala Jameeyyatul Ulema, he was also the member of Kerala Islam Religious Studies Board. He also served as the principal of Chattantal Arshadul Uloom Shariat College.
He is survived by wife, four sons and four daughters. He had scores of fans and disciples. Final rites will be conducted at Kadupura Jumma Masjid at Mogral at 11 am on Thursday September 4.
Zeenat Baksh Jumma Masjid president Haji G Abubakker and central committee general secretary Haji Mohammed Hanif, through a release, have asked all the Muslims in the district to observe voluntary bandh as a mark of respect to the departed soul, and participate in the last rites of the deceased Kazi.
Hundreds of individuals and organizations have condoled the death of this great scholar and religious leader. Ex-chief minister and chairman of the Union Administration Reforms Commission M Veerappa Moily has also grieved the death of the Kazi. In the death of the Kazi, we have lost an immensely popular leader and religious head, he has said. DK district Contress committee president Ramanath Rai, vice president B H Khader, KPCC member G A Bawa, MLA U T Khader, Union Coir Board member T M Shaid and Ullal Municipal president Ismail too have extended their condolences.
