Udupi, Sep 4: Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) and Janapara Vedike have squarely blamed the state BJP government, of having extended protection to the real culprits behind the mysterious death of Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat's wife Padmapriya at Delhi in June this year. The High Court has laid bare the double standards of the government, they have stated.
The security staff of Shama Apartment at Delhi has confessed that Karkala ex-MLA Sunil Kumar and two others were present at the flat in which Padmapriya lived, from 10 am to 12 am on the day she died. The investigating officers have failed to record the statements of Sunil Kumar so far. These are serious lapses. The High Court judge has pointed out these lapses, while disposing off the bail petition of Atul Rao. This clearly denotes dereliction of duty on the part of the police officials involved, said DSS district convener Jayan Malpe and Janapara Vedike state secretary Sriram Diwan, in a joint press statement.
The police officials, under pressure exerted by politicians, have tried to protect Sunil Kumar, Raghupati Bhat and another person, who are responsible for the death of Padmapriya, by not subjecting them to interrogation and investigation. Moreover, these people have destroyed all evidences against them, they charged.
The fact that the High Court brought these facts to light instead of the investigators, is a clear indication that the main aim of the government in this case, is protecting the perpetrators of this heinous crime, they added.
The state BJP, whose designs have been laid bare by the High Court, should at least wake up now and hand over the investigation in the case to the Central Bureau of Investigations, they said and sought the intervention of the central government to ensure that justice prevails.
