Shivamogga, Apr 22: A independent candidate from Shivamogga who is taking on BJP chief ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa in Shikaripura made a style statement while filing nomination papers, by mimicing the latter's chopper move here on April 21.
Mimicking Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president who had arrived in a chopper on Thursday along with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar, Vinay K.C. Rajavath(25), a student leader arrived in a helicopter to Shikaripur from Bengaluru file his nomination papers as an Independent candidate.
Speaking to media persons regarding his unique manner of filing nomination, he said since the people of Shikaripur believe in a straight fight, to take on the opponent in the election and to put up a good fight he landed in a helicopter from Bengaluru.
Vinay said that about Rs 20,000 was remitted to the police department, fire brigade and PWD. His friends paid the charter fare for the chopper ride to Thumbay Aviation. The election officials said that the cost incurred on the chopper ride would be added to the candidate's election expenditure.
Vinay first hogged the limelight when he declared that he would be contesting against Yeddyurappa from Shikaripura. Vinay who hails from Lambani community in a tiny village in Kunchenahalli tanda in Shivamogga taluk, is involved in a student organisation named Vidyarthi. He is a BSc graduate. His father is a police officer. He is also a lead actor in an upcoming Kannada movie titled 'Ramadurga'.
An ardent fan of former chief minister S Bangarappa, Vinay was the student union leader in Sahyadri College.
In Shikaripura the JD(S) has fielded H T Baligar and G B Malathesh is the Congress candidate. From AAP Chandrakanth Revankar is contesting in the assembly polls.
It will be an interesting fight in Shikaripura between the 25-year-old leader and the 75-year-old BJP leader.
