Mangalore, Sep 3: The sodality of Christian mothers in the city, celebrated its post centenary silver jubilee recently. Archbishop of Bangalore, Dr Ignatius Pinto celebrated the solemn high mass at Milagres Church to mark the occasion. Soul-stirring music at the mass was rendered by Adolf Lobo, director, MMCA and his choir members.
Papal Nuncio of Ivory Coast, Dr Ambrose Madtha presided over the function held later in the day. A prayer dance heralded the beginning of the evening's programme. A number of senior members of the sodality were felicitated on the occasion. About 125 needy families were given Rs 1,000 each in cash.
Mementos were then presented to Dr Madtha, Dr Olinda Pereira, two donors who contributed more than Rs 30,000 and Irene Pinto of the sodality who had worked hard to collect the highest amount for the projects. The jubilee souvenir, presented by the.Odette Nazareth, the editor, was released by Dr Pereira.
Spiritual director Fr Walter D’Mello, guest of honour Dr Pereira, and Dr Madtha, all spoke on the occasion. The function concluded with a rendition of the jubilee song composed by Benny D’Souza and a play by Mandd Sobhann.
