Udupi, Sep 1: "Many communal incidents, which had taken place in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, have despised human dignity. People have forgotten to treat each other respectfully", said writer G Rajashekar here on Sunday August 31.
He was speaking at a function organized to mark releasing 'Sauharda Sahitya Sangama' a souvenir of Sauharda Sahitya Sammelan, which was held in the city in 2007. The sammelan had been organized in protest against the 74th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan alleging domination of Sangh Parivar.
Rajashekar said that 74th All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan had failed to tackle communalism. He added that the Adi Udupi assault case of 2005 was a blot on civil society and increasing communalism in coastal districts was a cause of concern.
Writer Muralidhar Upadhya Hiriyadka released the souvenir.
