Bangalore, Aug 31: Officials of the anti-corruption cell of Central Bureau of Investigations conducted a raid on the residence of a senior Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd official at Hubli on Thursday and recovered a huge amount of unaccounted cash and other assets.
The raid was conducted on the residence of deputy general manager of BSNL Optical Fibre Projects G Brahmaiah, on a complaint that he had demanded for a bribe of Rs 5,000 for releasing the bills of a supplier.
The CBI officials during the search, found assets worth over Rs 75 lac which included Rs 26.40 lac in cash stashed in envelopes and boxes, 991 gms of gold and gold ornaments besides 4.85 kgs of silver. Title deeds relating to a house in Vijaywada, three bank accounts and documents of a site in Bangalore were also recovered.
The official is being questioned about the recovery of such a hue haul. The CBI is also understood to have been investigating the role of some other BSNL officials in helping the said official with his deeds.
