Mangalore, Aug 29: Even as the family of Jeevan Kiran D'Souza, one of the three Indian crew members from Kondalakad, 40 kms from here, working in the Iranian bulk carrier Iran Denyat that was hijacked, is anxiously awaiting his safe return, a spokesman of Wilhelmsen Ship Management said in Mumbai on Thursday August 28 that the crew is safe.
It is learnt that the pirates are holding seven ships along with their crews for ransom. Armed pirates had captured the ship from the Gulf of Aden connecting Indian Ocean with the Red Sea.
Speaking on behalf of Wilhelmsen ASA to which several of the crew members belong,, general manager of its Mumbai Manning Office Medepalli Srinath informed that all the crew are safe and there is nothing to worry about their safety. Owners of all these ships are trying through diplomatic channels to secure release of these ships and the crew, it is learnt.
