Mangalore, Aug 29: An assistant sub inspector(ASI) of the Railway Protection Force(RPF) posted at Mangalore Central railway station here, committed suicide on Thursday August 28, by hanging himself.
ASI Govindan Kutty (60) was to retire from services on August 31. It is surprising that he chose to end his life just two days ahead of his retirement. At around afternoon, he was found hanging in the box room of the RPF near the second platform of the station. Two boxes were found on the ground at the spot, and it is thought, that he used the boxes to get access to the roof beams and also that after tying his lungi around his neck and also to the beam, he jumped down from the boxes.
He was serving in Mangalore since the last four years and lived in the railway quarters. He is a native of Kotapuram village from Kerala. He is said to be suffering from psychological disorders and was getting treated at the hospital of the southern railway at Chennai and had reported back after treatment on Wednesday August 28 for duties here.
He is survived by wife, son and daughter, who live in his native place.
