Udupi, Aug 28: The state taluk re-organization committee that was assigned to collect first hand information on forming Brahmavar and Byndoor taluks, held a meeting with locals at Sri Janardhan Mahakali temple auditorium, here on Wednesday, August 27.
The discussions involved the pros and cons of forming taluk centers at the two locations. Byndoor Jagannath Shetty, T B Shetty, Ananta Movady, Prakashchandra Shetty, Kollady Subash Shetty, and Dr Atul Kumar Shetty, were involved in the talks with the state committee.
Byndoor MLA K Laxminarayan, was for making Byndoor the taluk center as Byndoor legislative assembly constituency has all the credentials necessary with 125 of 180 polling centers under its jurisdiction. He appealed to the residents of Byndoor to join the struggle for a separate taluk by appropriately choosing the villages for better governance.
Local MLA Raghupathy Bhat spoke in favour of Brahmavar taluk by segregating a few villages under this district and including Moodutonse and Padutonse and by retaining Perdoor and Bairampalli villages under Kaup legislative assembly constituency in Udupi. Karkala MLA H Gopal Bhandary presented a memorandum to the committee, seeking formation of Hebri taluk.
M B Prakash, chairman, state committee for taluk re-organization, said that 85 proposals have come from all over the state for formation of new taluks. He said that the committee will forward its report to the government by December. The formation of new taluks was necessary to streamline the departments that are burdened with additional work and for better governance, he added.
