The Bombay Catholic Sabha Condemns Developments in Orissa, Prays for Peace

Mumbai, August 27: The executive body members of Bombay Catholic Sabha(BCS), Mumbai, have unanimously condemned the events that have taken place in Orissa in the last two days. A press release in this respect,was issued today by its President Dolphy D'souza from St Michael's Church, Mahim.

The press release also states, that they condemn and condole the death of VHP Leader Laxmanananda Saraswati. They have urged the Orissa Government to investigate the issue at the earliest and apprehend all those responsible for the killing of the VHP Leader.

"We cannot condone the unwarranted attacks and the brutality of terrorising innocent Children, priests, nuns and Christians and blame them for this episode. The burning of churches and homes of Christians is despicable and painful. We call upon the governments both at the Centre and the state, not be mute spectators to the terror unleashed and killings taking place in the state, and step in to enforce the rule of the law." urged thepress release.

It also informs, that "the perpetrators of the crime, both the VHP leaderd  and those responsible for burning and terrorising must be apprehended and exemplary punishment meted out. The prime minister and the State Chief Minister of Orissa must take responsibility to bring peace and solace to the troubled masses immediately."

They also have urged the political parties including the VHP to play their positive roles inrestoring normalcy in the situation, without vitiating the environment further. All those leaders trying to fish in  this troubled situation, should be arrested, the body demanded.
