Puttur, Aug 26: On Monday August 25, Kadaba special tahsildar M Chandrashekhar visited the spot which has been the subject matter of dispute between two groups at Kunthoor in Perabe gram panchayat limits near here. He has ordered for the maintenance of status quo till the disputed land is surveyed and the officials mark the borders of property.
In a land said to be belonging to the government, the local shopkeepers had been drying arecanut by erecting fences around it. The local youth had removed these fences on Sunday August 24, for the purpose of extending the Goddess Sharada Bhajana Mandir ground and also for widening the access road to a few houses located nearby. The governing council of Kunthoor mosque, in a complaint lodged with the policemen claimed that the land being cleared belongs to it. The policemen accordingly, had reinstalled the fences and asked the people to maintain status quo till a final decision is taken. As people from the two disputing communities started congregating at the site, the situation remained tense for some time that day.
The special tahsildar during his visit, discussed the issue with members of both the groups involved in the dispute and ordered status quo till the department undertakes physical survey. One of the groups says, that the disputed land belongs to the government and the local panchayat had opposed the move to construct a building here some time back, for this reason. The other group continues to maintain that it is in possession of documents to prove that the site in question belongs to it.
