Udupi: Tenka Yermal Residents Prepare to Fight against Land Acquisition

Udupi, Aug 25: Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has issued notices to 334 families from Yermal Tenka village, which are lined up on the route of the proposed pipeline of the Yellur-based Nagarjuna thermal power plant, till the seashore. The pipelines will need 25 to 35 metres wide path, as two pipes, one for drawing sea water and the other, for discharging the used water, need to be laid.

Ex president of Yermal Tenka village Sathish Salian said that the villagers have already contacted the Acquisition officer of KIADB and the official informed them that the aggrieved have the opportunity to file objections if any, for the proposed acquisition.

Locals gathered on Sunday August 24, at Yermal Tenka school and resolved to fight against the new threat to their lands tooth and nail. All the 334 affected families have decided to file objections with the KIADB and to gather at the same spot on August 30 to take a final decision in the matter.

    Dear Mr. Shahnawaz, there is quite a huge difference between giving a small portion of land for road and losing the whole village with which the sentiments of people are attached with for thousands of years.

    Dear friends at Yermal, it is true that our beautiful Tulunad environment is changing. But the fact is that, our population also has increased tremendously. To provide atleast the basic needs our country needs developments.Electric power is one of the engine to growth. When the government is substantiating by providing alternate sites for rehabilitation and jobs

    I think these developements must be supported as the future for our younger generation is dependent on these developements. If we are too sentimental and opposing these projects, our enviroment in the future shall be more affected in terms of unemloyment, lack of power and all related disharmony. in the society. Let us be wise enough in taking any decisions which affect otherwise our future children.

    Look dear Villagers: This one of the case which being taking place.If all disitrict people unite and protest peacefully then it will matter to the officials. otherwise they will aquire the land one by one nearing villages also. To stop this we all must unite and protest Peacefully.Today Yermal , tomarrow kaup and nearby villages also.

    Considering all aspects, the very setting up of Nagarjuna Project is controversial. Fertile Agricultural lands are chosen to the detriment of more poor people with a view to give benefit to the well-to-do people who rather waste the e-energy. Argument on this point is never ending.

    Dear people, dont be against the development works. We need power. So dont fight against the land acquisition. but you have a right to ask for better compensation in cash or kind or a bigger size of land for the lost one. If we all fight against the development, then whom to be blamed for under development. In my land at bannanje, I have given 20ft wide land to the municipality free of cost for the purpose of constructing the road and now the area has developed rapidly and today those who have opposed this road project are equally benefitting from this road.
