Mangalore, Aug 23: Relating to the mysterious death of Campco employee Nagesh Bhat at Nagori on the outskirts of the city on August 2 here, the police have arrested on Friday a person named H Anand (23) from Bangalore, on charges of murdering Bhat.
The said murder had aroused tremendous interest, as there were no known enemies for the deceased person and finding of his body at a spot where he had no reason to go, had also complicated matters. The police version of the incidents leading to the death of Nagesh Bhat is as follows:
At about 8.20 pm on that fateful day, Nagesh Bhat was sitting in front of a garage in Nagori with his newly-bought mobile phone. Anand who came there, tried to snatch his mobile phone away, but Bhat resisted. The accused then pressed Bhat's neck with his left hand and stabbed him with a knife but sustained minor injury to his finger in the bargain. When the people gathered there, the accused cooked up a story that Nagesh had been trying to assault him and that he sustained the injury while trying to defend himself. The policemen initially had treated him as a witness to the incident.
The policemen later found that the mobile found lying at the spot bore finger prints of Anand. After intensive search, Anand was located at Panambur mines yard and upon sustained interrogation, confessed to the crime, the policemen said. Anand is said to be from a rural place in Bangalore city district and was living like a nomad since the past some time, they revealed.
A special intelligence squad led by Mangalore rural circle inspector Jayant V Shetty succeeded in cracking the case.
