Panaji, Mar 23 (TOI): The finance department on Thursday constituted a three-member committee of cabinet ministers to examine the Supreme Court’s February 23 order on liquor licences along highways.
Last month, the SC gave state governments the discretion to decide whether areas covered by local self-governing bodies or adjacent to municipal areas should be exempted from its 2016 order banning sale of liquor within 500m of highways.
The committee will be headed by urban development minister Francis D’Sousa, with TCP minister Vijai Sardesai and revenue minister Rohan Khaunte as members. As many as 1,332 licences are affected by the SC order.
