Bangalore, Aug 19: Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu lashed out at noted film actress turned social activist Shabana Azmi's statement accusing Indian polity of being unfair to Muslims.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Naidu said: "Shabana's comments were uncharitable against a nation which supported Muslims in all possible ways. Muslims are more safe and secure in India than any other country. Shabana must be knowing this."
Naidu said that Muslims have occupied high positions in India, including President, chief justices of Supreme Court and captain of the Indian cricket team. Bollywood is dominated by the Khans. "Nowhere in the world do minorities get such importance," he added.
On the Amarnath land issue, Naidu said that the issue has received tremendous support from the people and the BJP's national office bearers meeting would be held in New Delhi on Monday to discuss the Jammu and Kashmir imbroglio. The meeting would also deliberate on rising inflation.
Stating that the ISI and the banned SIMI have spread their network in India, he alleged that no action was being taken by the Central Government as its new friends like the Samajwadi Party support SIMI.
He demanded that the price of petroleum products, which was hiked following a rise in international prices, be reduced with crude cooling off to $ 115 a barrel from its recent high.
