Mangalore: Minister Krishna Palemar Inaugurates New Solid Waste Treatment Plant

Mangalore, Aug 17: Krishna J Palemar, minister for environment and microbiology, hinterland transport and Dakshina Kannada (DK) district in–charge, inaugurated the solid waste treatment plant here, on Saturday, August 16.
The state-of-the-art plant has been set up at Pacchanady dumping yard, on the outskirts of city, at a cost of Rs 15.88 crore, with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Speaking to media persons after the inauguration Palemar said that it was the first ever such plant set up in DK district. It would not only dispose off garbage collected from areas under the jurisdiction of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), but also from neighbouring localities.
The MCC has been entrusted with the responsibilities of efficiently managing the solid waste treatment plant and efforts will be made to provide additional land as requisitioned by MCC, close to the dumping yard, so as to increase the capacity of the treatment plant shortly, said Palemar.
Yogish Bhat, MLA, mayor Ganesh Hosabettu, deputy mayor Shakila Kava, Premanand Shetty,president,health overseeing committee, Sameer Shukla, MCC commissioner, and J R Lobo, project director, Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC), were present on the occasion.
