Mangalore, Aug 17: Fr Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) commemorated India’s 61st Independence Day with a short meaningful programme, on Friday, August 15. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMCI, and Dr Divakar Shenoy, head of department of surgery, Fr Muller Medical College (FMMC), were the chief guests.
Dr Col.Rodrigues, head, department of ophthalmology, FMMC, led the flag-hoisting ceremony. Fr Rodrigues urged the youth of the country, who will be the work force of tomorrow, to march forward together in building India’s future. The band from the college of nursing, and students of both the nursing and medical colleges, added to the celebrations with their patriotic songs.
There was a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of ‘Rangmanch', a colourful campus competition, held on Thursday, August 14, to mark Independence Day. Nandini Joseph and Larissa Tancy D’Silva of MBBS – 2006, bagged the first place in 'rangoli' competition and Rajesh Wilson and Goggy Pappy George of MBBS – 2005, topped the face painting competition.
Fr Denis D’Sa, administrator of FMMC and Fr Muller College of Nursing, welcomed the gathering. Prema D’Souza, vice-principal, College of Nursing, proposed the vote of thanks.
