Udupi, Aug 15: The district 'Tulu Koota' conferred the Paniyady award on Tulu novelist Janaki Brahmavar, for her novel 'Rukku', at a function held in Hotel Kediyoor on Friday, August 15.
Bhaskaranand Kumar, president, Tulu Koota, did the honours. Acknowledging the honour, Brahmavar said that one can easily compose poetry in Tulu but writing a novel was similar to harvesting paddy on an elevated patch of land.
Her novel focuses on realities and expresses the emotions of rural women, deriving inspiration from Shivaram Karanth’s Kannada novel 'Marali Mannige’. Muddu Moodubelle, station director, All India Radio, Mangalore, released ‘Rukku’.
Lecturer Dr Niketan delivered the foreword of the novel while Muralidhar Upadhya Hiriadka briefed about Paniyady’s persona in instituting the award.
Gangadhar Kediyoor, convener, Tulu Koota, welcomed the gathering and delivered the keynote address. Vasanti Shetty compered the programme while M G Chaitanya proposed the vote of thanks.
