Udupi, Aug 14: The joint committee of the labour unions will be staging a nation-wide protest on Wednesday August 20, against the anti-people policies of the government, said Adamar Sripati Acharya, district convener of the unions, at a press conference on Thursday, August 14 evening.
Over six crore labourers affiliated to CITU, AITUC, HMS, banks, and the insurance sector, all India unions of railways, BSNL, union and state government employees, defense personnel and other labour unions, will participate in the protest, he added.
On the day of the strike, labourers from Kundapur, Ampar, Gangolli, Malpe, Brahmavar, Saligarama, Kokkarne, Kaup and other areas of Udupi district, will stage rallies and road blockades, informed Acharya. Labourers will take out a rally from LIC premises here at 10.00 am on that day. The rally will pass through the main streets and conclude at Corporation Bank premises, he said.
K Shankar, Shivaram, Vishwanath Rai, and Ramesh Mendon, were present at the press conference.
