Oman, Mar 6: Mangalorean Catholic Centre for the Parish (MCCP) has been in the forefront in providing platforms to the community members to showcase their different talents. Among them, Drawing is considered to be an art form that brings together vivid imagination and artistic skills of a person. In order to foster this unique talent among the community members, MCCP has been consistently conducting Drawing contest every year for all age groups.

This year, MCCP witnessed registration of over 80 contestants for their annual drawing competition held recently at the Sts Peter & Paul Church, Ruwi. All the contestants had pre-registered themselves for the contest through the web portal, which was supervised by the internal auditor, Vijai Dcunha. The event was structured to bring out drawing talents inevery age group and have a healthy competition to achieve a higher level of excellence.

After the fun filled Mangalorean Milan, Team-26 was in full swing to host another event, for which participants rushed in to showcase their creativity and passion. The event started by greeting the crowd by the cultural secretary, Dynet Fernandes, who was the host of the event. Fr Mariyan Miranda, the spiritual director of MCCP was invited to set open the event with prayers and blessings on all the contestants. The president, Sunil Furtado then wished all the contestants and encouraged them to give their best.

The event was preceded by grouping all the contestants into various categories as per age groups by the general secretary, Jane Castelino and assisted by other Team 26 members. Contestants were then escorted to their respective class rooms for the competition.The contestants were given 1 hour and 30 minutes to create their own master pieces once the topic was given.

Category A consisting of tiny tots from KG 1 and KG 2 were given a picture of a dinosaur to colour. It was beautifully done by the little ones who brought an array of colours to light up the world of extinction. Grade 1 and 2 were provided a picture of social life of children, where children were depicted going to school, walking and enjoying nature. The children of this category were able to recreate the scene with different combinations of colours. Children of grade 3 and 4 were asked to recreate a fruit basket that was designed by Team 26 with varieties of real fruits. The fruit basket depicted the gift of nature and beauty of God’s creation. Grade 5 and 6 were shown effects of pollution in a graphical form. The children were asked to imagine the impact of various forms of pollution on earth and how to save it. Children of this age group came out with different solutions which were shown on their drawing sheets.Market places are common around the world, but their form differs from place to place around the world, which was the theme for Grade 7 and 8. This brought out their creativity and awareness of the world and its people. On the other hand, Grade 9-12 were asked to display the traditions or festivities of the country they live in, that is Oman. The children were able to reproduce glimpses of Sultanate’s beautiful culture and the festivities. The adult category had a unique topic of Unity in diversity. The contestants were expected to show various cultures coming together to show love and the bond of nations and the people around the world. Each category was supervised by the EC members Michael Goveas, Naveen Mascarehnas, Francis Pinto, Vijai Dcunha, Terence D’Souza, Philomena Saldanha and Suneel Menezes and committed volunteers Molly Pinto, Rinet Menezes, Sachin Lobo and Mervin Mascarenhas.

Community Services Secretary, Suneel Menezes thanked the contestants, families, the community and all the sponsors who have shown their whole hearted support towards event. Certificates were distributed to every contestant to show an appreciation for their talents. These along with sumptuous snacks brought wide smiles on the face of all the children.

The Drawings were judged by two persons, one an eminent artist and another well-known Art teacher from Indian School Ghubra. The winners in each category are as below,

Sunil Furtado announced that all winners of the Drawing competition will be felicitated on April 13, the badminton tournament day. He also thanked all those who participated in the competition and said that the event was successful because of the tremendous enthusiasm shown by the members and their children.
