Mangaluru, Dec 30: Mangaluru Mayor Kavitha Sanil stressed on the importance of road safety and the need to follow traffic rules on Saturday, December 30.
She was speaking after releasing short films on road safety produced by Kannadaka Production headed by Mohan Das Kamath, Kuwait in association with Lions Club, Mangaluru and Rotary Club, Mangaluru Central.
Stating that road accidents are the biggest cause of death in the city, Sanil said most of the accidents are due to the negligence. Many people have lost lives because traffic rules were not followed. It is very important to be responsible while driving. Road safety should also be taught to children from a young age, she said.
She lauded Kannadaka Production for their efforts. “They are doing the work what the government agencies are supposed to be doing. City Corporation will give all support to these types of programmes because we need more awareness on road safety,” she said.
Three awareness short films on topics – Driving exceeding speed limit, riding without helmet and driving in an intoxicated stage were featured. Video clips of Mangaluru Police Commissioner T R Suresh, Cine Star Upendra, Senior Journalist Manohar Prasad speaking on road safety are also featured in the short films.
The cinematography has been done by Daya Kukkaje and Dinesh Ira. Post-production has been done by Foxcorn Media headed by Karthik.
Kannadaka Production plans to show the films in public places, schools, and social media with an intention on spreading awareness.
Venkatesh Baliga, president Lions Club, Raymond D’Cunha, President, Rotary, Mangaluru Central and members of Kannadaka Production were present.
