Bengaluru: BJP distances itself from Hegde's 'changing' Constitution claim

Bengaluru, Dec 26 (IANS) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday distanced itself from Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde's claim that the party will change the Constitution and remove the word "secular" from it.

"The party (BJP) doesn't want to get involved with what Hegde has said. What he spoke about is not an issue for us," BJP spokesperson for Karnataka Vamanacharya told IANS here.

The Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship had on Monday said the BJP was in power to "change the Constitution".

BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa

"People agree with the word secular as it is mentioned in the Constitution. It (the Constitution) has changed many times before and we have come to change the Constitution," Hegde said at an event in Kuknur in Koppal district, about 400km to the north of the state capital.

Those who call themselves secular are like people "without parentage", the minister had said.

"If someone says I'm a Muslim, Christian, Lingayat, Brahmin or a Hindu, I feel happy because they know their roots. For those calling themselves secularists, I don't know what to call them," the 49-year-old minister said.

Calling Hegde's statements "disparaging", the Congress' state unit said the BJP was "denigrating the ideals" on which the Constitution is based.

"Our country is built on the ideals of secularism and co-existence of people of all castes, creeds, races and religions. Our Constitution is based on ideals, which the BJP is denigrating by allowing Hegde to make such disparaging statements," said the working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Dinesh Gundu Rao.

Hegde, who hails from Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district, about 400km to the northwest of Bengaluru, was appointed as the Union Minister in September after a Cabinet reshuffle.

He has been a Lok Sabha lawmaker from the Uttara Kannada constituency for five terms.

I appreciate Mr. Hegde to openly saying that bjp needs constitution to be changed. It is bjps agenda number but they are trying to hide it. but, they should know that they cannot hide lie for a long time. The truth should prevail one day or the other. Whatever Hegde stated is not his personal view but it is as per agenda of sangh parivar and bjp. Bjp has planned to change the consitution rejecting indian citizenship to Muslims/sikha/christians/budhists/lingayats/jains etc and only Brahmin will be the pure indians. They are planning to drag out people of other religions from india. This is a dangerous agenda. All non bjp parties need to be united and fight this anti idnian party. They are tryign to ruin india.

Promised Rs. 15 lakh of the black money to everybody in India- hundreds of smart cities-millions of job creation-all the Chines factories in India-Foreign Direct Investment by the trillions in India-Modi was flying around the world to bring the trillions; but what we see now is the real color of the party to declare India as an Hindu theocracy.

While other nations like Saudi Arabia are trying to move forward through breaking away from the antiquated and unproductive theocracy, India is trying to go backward from her democracy to theocracy which will keep all the foreign investment away from India as well as national disorder.

Any nation which will put religion at the front seat will be heading towards more anarchy and economic decline. When the citizens of any nation can believe and practice the religion of their choice without fear, that nation will be socially healthy and productive.

It is not courtesy, they are backing this wayward politician to measure the response of the opposition parties and the people of India. They will be greatly delighted to transform India as a radical Hindu theocracy.

Against the lynching and attacks of the minorities in India, did Modi ever speak loudly and strongly to stop that?

Hegde’s Remark on BJP Changing Constitution, Says It Reflects RSS’s Age-Old Agenda.

“Shobha Karandlaje, Hegde and Prathap Simha, BJP MP from Mysore, have been trying to make polarising statements for sometime now. Clearly, there is an attempt by the BJP to deliberately communalise politics in Karnataka before the next assembly elections,”.

Since he is a Manuwadi, (follower of ancient text Manusmriti, which codifies caste practices and punishments), he doesn’t respect the Indian constitution,”.
“If anybody reads the history between 1946 and 1950, when the constitution was being drafted, the RSS can be clearly seen as commenting negatively on all principles that ensure equality and brotherhood. Be it the adoption of parliamentary democracy or the state’s decision to have no religion, the RSS was opposed to all such clauses. It celebrated our independence day as a black day. If one sees a government resolution of July 26, 1949, one can see an agreement between the then home minister Sardar Patel and RSS chief Golwalkar. The resolution shows that Golwalkar had reluctantly accepted in writing to abide by the Indian constitution. We all know that it was banned after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. So, the RSS agreed to Patel’s conditions only to get the ban on it removed,”
Ever since the constitution was adopted, the RSS has always been of the opinion that it should be changed. So Hegde’s statements are not surprising. Even before independence, the RSS dreamed that once the British go away, they can have a Manuvadi system and varnasrama dharma can be imposed.”
PM Modi told Parliament that the religion of the government was “India first” and the Constitution its “holy book.”
Hegde’s contributions towards the state as “zero”. What are his contributions to the development of the state? Did he ever speak on Karnataka’s issues in parliament?”
BJP should clarify or ask Hegde to resign who has swear to the same constitution. There should be official press release.

The Cabinet Minister not having an ounce of knowledge to understand the meaning of " secular ". Mr. Minister, individuals will claim their religious affinity, but when a nation is trying to erase that wording from the constitution, that shows the nation is either theocratic or atheistic. Why Modi can't correct him for making such crazy statements?

Though ,the word “ Secular “ is included in the constitution for a good cause and with good intention by the architect of the constitution ,but INC has long been misusing the word to their advantage ,at the time of elections, just to hoodwink the people and garner their votes. The congress party’s credentials are to the contrary. They (Congress) are doing an appeasement politics and a certain section the people of the country are falling prey to their tactics. It is this malafide intentions of the congress, the BJP is opposed to. Mr. Ananth Kumar Hegde, the minister , was probably referring to this. But, BJP does not subscribe to the personal views expressed by the minister nor have they (BJP) ever uttered changing the constitution to exclude the term ‘Secular’ and disturb the secular fabric of the constitution.

Every citizen born in this country is a Hindu irrespective of the religion he belongs to.This has been amply demonstrated by the BJP ideologue RSS and the NDA government at the centre is committed to it.
