Vijayapura, Dec 23: The district police, in assocication with criminal investigation department (CID), succeeded in cracking the case of rape and murder of a girl that attracted attention of the entire nation. All the four persons arrested so far in this case happen to be minors, it is gathered. CID superintendent of police, Anand Kumar, said in a press conference held here on Friday that the other three accused would be arrested by Saturday morning.
He refused to reveal anything about where from the accused were arrested. He said that they were not given to judicial custody as they need to be questioned. While confirming that the girl had been raped, he said it is too early to conclude it to be an incident of gang rape. Scrutiny of the post mortem report along with further investigation can throw more light on this aspect, he added.
Anand Kumar gave full credit for the arrests to district superintendent of police, Kuldeep Jain, and his team, which had visited numerous places in Karnataka and Maharashtra in search of the culprits. He stated that his department took up investigation of the case only on Friday and a team of 15 officials visited various spots including the house of the girl, spot where the crime happened, school, and police station, to collect material evidence. The officials, in response to the demand of the girl's family to ensure stringent punishments to her killers, assured them of doing so.
Anand Kumar was accompanied by deputy superintendents of police, J C Ravikumar, M Sridhar, S P Dharanesh, police sub-inspectors, B G Sankarappa, Govindaraju and others. In the meantime, the girl's mother, who was hospitalized due to trauma, was discharged on Friday afternoon.
