Mangalore, Jul 15: Mangaloreans have been used since times unknown, to the sight of the scores of banana vendors lining up the street by the side of Lady Goschen Hospital in front of Liking Towers that leads to the Central Market. Henceforth, their place will be occupied by two-wheelers.

About four months ago, the city corporation had decided to create a two-wheeler parking zone here and completed tender process of allotting one side of the street on the other side of Linking Towers for the purpose. It had not been put to practice till now, as banana vendors who have since long been carrying on their business here, were reluctant to shift out their base.

On Tuesday July 15 morning, the corporation officials, with the support of policemen, evicted the banana vendors from their traditional base and paved way for the functioning of a two-wheeler parking. Henceforth, no parking will be allowed on the Linking Tower side of the street, and only two-wheelers will be allowed to be parked on the other side.

In the process, two cars found parked on the street during the above operation, were shifted by using cranes.

That is a real nice comment! I always wonder, whenever I visit India, why people keep watching construction work, road work or cranes functioning as if these are some kind of entertainment shows. It is very very silly and funny!

I think this is a very good move by the corporation.I'm not against the venodrs but are they paying anything to the corporation for using the place. They make money for themself but what about the coporation. We just blame the coporation for not improving the city but when they do it we are bothered about the vendors who are selling their stuff illegally.Let them sell their stuff at a designated area. Why spoil the city.

Mangalore from the past few years has not improved much in monetary gains except real estate agents and builders, even how hard you work your salary will not cross an megere Rs 3000 to max Rs 5000 where Rs1500 to Rs2000 will be self expenses. Its better these people are in Mangalore and not travelled to gulf and worked there as labourers or other private sectors who are suffering without proper food, accomodation and unpaid salaries and also at times put behind bars for fighting to get their rights.

Mangalore atleast has people who care and has not yet become a typical metro where people are not bothered what the other is doing.. alas Mangalore is Mangalore and will remain the same and people though they do not earn in dollars but are happy in their own paradise rather than being exploited by so called rich countries. This is their only free entertainment and they watch it to their hearts content as vehicle towing for no parking is rarely seen in mlore.

David and Stanley, the onlookers are banana vendors. Now since the place has been allotted to two wheeler parking, what they will do? If you were here, you too would have seen the operation-quit pavement.

Thank you David, Mangalore/USA. By working hard they can hardly make money. You always watch if there is any incidents you will find public filing up. You can't change the attitude of the mind & nature of public.

Looking at these pictures, are there so many unemployed people in Mangalore? What are they doing hanging around. Don't they have anything better to do? why can't they be productive instead of gazing on the road ? I am sure India will shine once these lazy bones stop wasting their time, minding their own business and being productive!!
