Sullia, Dec 22: The police took away a couple whose movement in temple town Subrahmanya since the last two days evoked suspicion. The youth and the lady belong to different religions, and locals have suspected this to be part of 'Love Jihad' racket.
The middle-aged woman was found outside a choultry at car street, Subrahmanya alone since Tuesday. She was always seen speaking over cellphone. A young man used to approach her often and speak to her before going back. As the locals and security staff functioning around the temple grew suspicious about their behaviour, security men spoke to the lady and then contacted Subrhamanya police station on Wednesday December 20. When the police took the couple away and questioned them, both claimed themselves to be friends. But during the questioning, their statements widely differed and the police had cause to smell something fishy.
The police contacted parents of the lady who is from Bengaluru, and asked them to come to the police station. The youth has been identified as Fazan from Bellare in the taluk. The police who have detained the couple, have not so far registered any case.
Hindu organizations said that often couple belonging to different religions keep visiting this town in the guise of devotees and Hindu girls are being trapped by men from other religions as part of 'Love Jihad'. They have urged the police to delve deep into the issue and investigate the current incident thoroughly.
