Mangaluru, Dec 21: In a case of mistaken identity, a passenger was detained at Mangaluru International Airport here on Thursday December 21 and later released.

Ashfaq, a resident of Kulai, was detained by the immigration officers based on a lookout notice issued in a murder case.

Ashfaq was taken into custody soon after he arrived from Dammam.

The police had issued a lookout notice for the accused in the murder of Kodikeere Shivaraj that took place in 2012. Due to an error in the notice, the immigration officers detained Ashfaq, assuming that he was the same person as mentioned in the notice.

Ashfaq was then handed over to Panambur police. Upon verification, the police learnt that he was the wrong person and released him.

Ashfaq's family expressed disappointment over this detention but were relieved that he was let off without any problem.
