Mangaluru, Dec 21: In the wake of allegations of 'alliance' between the Congress and the SDPI, the district BJP on Thursday December 21 attacked the Congress, accusing it of appeasing minorities ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a press meet here, district BJP president Sanjeeva Matandoor said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mangaluru on the same day that BJP scored victories in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections was a big boost to the BJP representatives in the district. Fearing BJP's dominance in the state during the forthcoming elections, Congress is trying to appease the minorities. Congress is forming alliance with SDPI, which shows that Congress can go to any level to have a discussion with traitors and communal organisations. The coastal district is the perfect example for this.
"Recently a police officer was seen felicitating MLA Mohiuddin Bava at his residence. This indicates the present state of the police department. Even during the groundbreaking ceremony of Vamanjoor-Pilikula road, BJP corporator Hemalatha Salian was not invited, which was in violation of the protocol. This irked the locals resulting in a protest.
"Police were lambasting the localites during the protest which shows that police are under the control of the local politicians. Love jihad case has been reported in the state, still these Congressmen are favouring only one section of the society which encourages them more," Matandoor said.
"Chief minister Siddaramaiah is on a election-related political tour. He is spending government money on this. For the past four years he has shown no concern for the development of the people of the state. Siddaramaiah must release white paper on the expenditure for his publicity," he demanded.
Former MLC Monappa Bhandary, BJP spokesperson Jithendra Kottari, Y Bharath Shetty and others were present.
