Kundapur, Dec 20: Kundapur additional district and sessions judge Prakash Khanderi on Wednesday, December 20 sentenced a man to 12 years in jail for raping a minor girl in Amasebail in 2011 and impregnating her.
The convict, Suresh Poojary, was also told to pay a penalty of Rs 50,000. If Poojary fails to pay the fine, he will remain in jail for another year.
He was also awarded two years of jail term for issuing death threats. The imprisonment will be carried on concurrently.
The then Kundapur circle inspector Madan Gaonker who investigated the case had submitted the charge sheet to the court. Thirteen people were considered as witnesses in the case.
Poojary who is related to the victim had raped the minor in Amasebail in 2011 when she was alone in the house. She had given birth to a baby boy. Suresh Poojary had threatened to kill her if she informed about the incident to others.
Special prosecutors in the case were B Prakashchandra Shetty and Harischandra Udyavar.
