Mumbai, Dec 20: Dawood Ibrahim’s most trusted aide Chhota Shakeel may be dead.
According to a report by Hindustan times, Shakeel (57) died on Jaunary 6 in Islamabad. The newspaper has an audio clip of a conversation between a member of Shakeel’s gang, Bilal, and a Mumbai-based relative of Shakeel that reveals some information. However, the clip could not be authenticated.
There are two versions regarding Shakeel’s death. One says he suffered a heart attack and was rushed by his bodyguards to the Combined Medical Hospital in Rawalpindi by air. He was declared brought dead.
Another version says that Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence or ISI used Odessa to kill Shakeel because it was becoming difficult to manage him.
It is said that Shakeel’s body has been buried in an unmarked grave in the Defence Housing Authority graveyard. Shakeel’s second wife Ayesha and other family members were asked to vacate their house in D-48, 15th Lane, Khayaban-Seher, DHA Colony and moved to an ISI safe house in Lahore.
It is believed that ISI has kept Shakeel’s death a top secret as they want to broker deals using his virtual presence. Sources reveal that Shakeel had trained a Pakistani national called Rahim Merchant alias Doghla to impersonate him and make calls. For the last two decades, it was Merchant who called businessmen and media houses as Shakeel.
As Shakeel helps broker arms deal, ISI may use Merchant to continue the business.
Dawood is believed to have gone into depression after he was informed about Shakeel’s death.
In the recent weeks there’s been a lot of buzz around Shakeel, with media reports claiming he has split from Dawood Ibrahim.
The reports added that Shakeel’s aides Bilal, Mohammed Rashid, Iqbal Salim, Yusuf Raja, and Parvez Khawaja, all Pakistani nationals, have broken from Dawood’s D-company.
