Puttur, Dec 19: In an incident which happened near Mairoli in Vaindinadka near Sampya in the taluk on Monday December 18, tension mounted between two different communities. Trouble arose on account of alleged misbehaviour of a person in seeking cellphone number from a young girl and inviting her.
It is said that Yousuf from Kattataru in Kedambady had stopped his truck loaded with stones on Monday evening near Mairoli for washing his face. He has been accused of behaving indecently with a young girl during this period. He not only called out aloud the girl who was inside her house, instructed her to give her cellphone number, and invited her to meet him at a specific spot on Tuesday. The girl complained about this lewd behaviour to her mother. When the mother came out of her house and questioned the youth about his improper behaviour, friction arose on account of prolonged verbal altercation.
When the young man left from there and reached Vaindinadka, a crowd is said to have attacked him. The police immediately arrived on the spot, took Yousuf into custody and took him to Sampya police station. People from both the communities gathered in large numbers at the police station and heated words were exchanged between the crowds.
District superintendent of police, Sudheer Kumar Reddy, arrived at the police station thereafter. Leaders from both the sides were taken into custody and questioned.
