Sullia, Dec 18: Advocate, Devicharan (39), who turned his revolver at his head and ended life presumably on Saturday night, was the son of film producer and writer, N S Deviprasad. He used to practice law in the town.

Devicharan used to stay in his house here. His parents used to live in the family house at Sampaje. Deviprasad, who turned ill recently, had been admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru some days back. His wife was also by his side at the hospital. Therefore, Devicharan used to operate to the town from Sampaje everyday.

It is said that Devicharan was suffering from certain health problems and that he had neglected to take his medicines regularly since some days, which had give rise to depression. There is suspicion that he would have committed suicide out of depression.

It is also said that Devicharan, who was suffering from depression, had stopped consuming medication as he was trying to return to good health with the help of Yoga and meditation since sometime. He rarely took up court cases.

As per information provided by a police officer to a Kannad a daily, Devicharan had visited the college in which wife works as lecturer, in his car on Saturday morning. The students of his wife had admired the car, and congratulated his wife, thinking that she owned it. Devicharan had intervened then to clarify that the car belonged to him. The advocate had taken part in a Lions Club programme here till 8 pm on Saturday. Halfway through the programme, he walked away, went to Sampaje alone, and fired at his own head from a revolver at about 9.30 pm, it is believed. Workers who visited his house for working as usual on Sunday morning saw that the advocate's body was lying in a pool of blood, and conveyed this information to locals as well as police personnel. Madikeri police arrived at the spot later and conducted inquest.

Devicharan's wife was at Sullia at the time. Arrangements were made to take her to Sampaje after the incident came to light. Madikeri police circle inspector, rural sub-inspector, Chetan, and Sampaje police outpost personnel gathered information and registered a case.

Deviprasad was the producer of several movies and documentaries. He was a former president of Karnataka Arebhashe Academy, and was popular as a writer. As soon as the news about death of Devicharan spread, dignitaries from the district, Madikeri, Sampaje etc, judges in the town, and hundreds of people from Sampaje and nearby areas crowded the house.

As a professional lawyer, he would have seen hundreds of cases where people make incorrect claims, or tell lies.

He would not feel depressed/upset at all by such comments.

    May be he did.

But how did the police officer read the mind of a dead person? Especially where the brain was not in one piece because of shooting at the head.

There is no indication that the dead man wrote a suicide note, or told anybody about it.

The reason of the car seems to be very silly. Must be something else. I wont agree that a depressed person would such an act.

@J.F.DSouzaAttavar mangalore, may be it might seem silly for people like you and me.but not people who suffer mental disease sczeophreny. They feel inferior or insulted when you say anything good or bad.He must have not taken any medicamen t and that might have irritated.Yoga or meditation doesnt help much. For example here one famous torwart of a football team had this and tried his best not to show to outside world, but with no effect.later he went to railway track just before a important play and suecided there.

If he was under treatment for depression, armed weapons should have been avoided from his possession.
