Bagalkot, Dec 17: An engineering student, identified as Sharanappa Nagaraj, is being treated at Kumareshwar Hospital here after he tried to end his life. Sharanappa is from Kanasavi in Lingsugur taluk of Raichur district and a student of Vidyavikasa Engineering College, Mysuru.
Sharanappa, reports say, had consumed some poisonous subtance at Gajendragad bus stand in Gadag district. He did so on Friday evening, and the staff of the bus depot had admitted into the government hospital. Thereafter, he was taken to Kumareshwar Hospital at Bagalkot for better treatment.
In a letter which the police recovered from the spot, Sharanappa said that he was being pressurized by Ahmed Rafiq and Ismail from Mysuru to get involved in terror activities. He said he was being harassed by the duo in this connection since the last 18 months. He confessed in the letter that the two used to inject something into his body, and that they were educating him about making of bomb in the college. He said he could not make up his mind to kill anyone else.
Bagalkot superintendent of police, C B Rishvanth, visited the hospital and questioned Sharanappa and his family. He said that on the face of it, the student's claim appears to be false and that the youngter's brother had told him that Sharanappa was facing some mental issues.
The police visited the engineering college at Mysuru where the Sharanappa studies on Saturday and collected information about the student. College authorities revealed that Sharanappa had joined the college in 2015 and had failed in two subjects. He had not attended examination scheduled on December 11.
Mysuru city police commissioner, Dr S Subrahmanyeshwar Rai, confirmed that there are no terrorist elements in that city and that no threats from any anti social activists had come to his notice.
