Dubai, Dec 17: Konkani’s well-known thriller novelist and short story writer Ron Roche Cascia bagged the prestigious 2018 Daiji Dubai Literary Award. This was declared during Daiji Dubai general body meeting on Friday December 15 in Dubai.
Soft spoken Ron Roche Cascia, presently residing in Mangalore, was born on May 25, 1947. He claims his interest towards literature was inspired by his parents who were avid readers of Kannada and Konkani literature. He made his first appearance into the foray of Konkani literature with a suspense thriller ‘Sarallam Patlyan’ (Behind Bars) in 1973, published in Kannik and followed by ‘Ami Nov’ published in Mithr in 1974. The exhilarating journey continued with 9 novels, over 100 and short stories and over 150 articles regularly appearing in well-known Konkani periodicals and magazines.
Ron Roche has lived through the changing times of Konkani literature by conceiving fiction over 40 years with unflinching honesty. That too without expecting any awards and rewards. Continuity has been the hallmark.
He is one among the very few Konkani writers who carry the flair for penning gritty and suspenseful thrillers. Making splendid use of this genre, Ron Roche Cascia has carved a long-lasting name in Konkani literature. His other novels are ‘Thaachim Haddam’, ‘Hanv Rodtham’, ‘Token No 13’, ‘Ho Haath Kunyecho Haath’, ‘Maakaa Jiyenvk Sodaa’, ‘Taache Sodhner’ and ‘Zar Hanv Sangin Tar’. Multi-faceted Ron Roche has composed tunes and music to 65 songs for various Konkani Plays. Ron Roche is a singer and has staged 3 Ron-Lawrence musical nites, one at Don Bosco Hall and two at Cascia church grounds.
The highly prominent Daiji Dubai Literary Puroskar would be presented and bestowed to the recipient in January 2018. He will get the prestigious award of Rs 75,000 along with a citation and certificate of honour.
