Bengaluru, Dec 17: Shivashankar Mahato (29) from Bihar, who had fled after murdering the owner of a paying guest (PG) accommodation in the city, was nabbed by the personnel of Mico Layout police station in the city. Mahato, it transpires, had killed the owner of the PG for which he worked as cook, having been inspired by Hindi TV serial, 'CID'. Mahato told the police that he committed this murder with the aim of stealing lacs of rupees from the PG owner.
Shivashankar was working as cook for a PG situated in BTM Layout here. He killed owner of the PG, Tirupal Reddy (60), with a knife used for cutting vegetables and then escaped to Punjab, the police revealed, as he was eying two lac rupees in cash kept by Reddy in an almirah at the PG facility.
Mahato apparently guessed that having been from Bihar, the police would look for him in that state. Therefore, he chose to flee to Punjab instead. He reached Ludhiana and was searching for a job there as he planned to settle down there. The police, who were on his trail, succeeded in arresting him on the basis of information they could gather from various sources.
The police said that Shivashankar regularly watched Hindi TV serial, 'CID', without fail and closely observed methods used by murderers to keep investigators at bay. They added that during his questioning, Mahato confessed that he got inspiration from this TV programme for this murder as he thought he would not be caught because of fool proof methods employed by him to escape.
