Mangaluru, Dec 15: Mangaluru city police have stepped up their efforts to trace down the miscreants who opened fire at an apparel store in Car Street on December 8 and have formed three teams for the investigations.
It may be recalled that exactly a week ago, two unidentified bike-borne men had opened fire at M Sanjeeva Shetty apparel store. A security guard was injured in the incident.
Lack of cooperation from the shop owner is reportedly causing hindrance to the speedy investigation of this case.
Police have recovered the CCTV footage and collected images of the two bike-borne attackers. They have also formed three teams to trace the culprits and also identified two suspected informers of Kali Yogesh.
It is said that the bike borne miscreants were conversing in Kannada. Kali Yogesh is involved in extortion and some media houses had received calls from Kali Yogesh claiming his role behind the firing.
It is learnt that Kali Yogesh had targeted the real estate business for extortion but since the announcement of demonetisation the business of extortion from real estate has come down. This led him to target the small commercial establishments, it is learnt.
It is said that the apparel store owner had received frequent threat calls from the underworld, but out of fear, the owner had not complained about it to police. Soon after the incident the owner denied that he had received any threat call, but once the media highlighted the name of Kali Yogesh's involvement in the incident, the shop owner admitted that he had indeed received threat calls at his Puttur office. Frequent changes in his statement are also said to be obstructing the investigation.
