Salutary benefits from demonetisation in India: IMF

Washington, Dec 15 (PTI): The International Monetary Fund (IMF) sees benefits in the medium-term from the demonetisation exercise which India carried out about a year ago.

"We see salutary benefits from the demonetisation that took place a year ago. And there are potential benefits going forward," William Murray of the IMF told reporters at the fortnightly IMF news conference.

Murray said the demonetisation did cause some temporary disruptions in economic activity, primarily, private consumption and small businesses due to cash shortages.

"(But) the effects are dissipating," he said in response to a question.

"In the medium term, demonetisation could have possible effects, including through greater formalisation of and the information on economic activities and a more efficient payment system with a greater use of the banking system and digital payments," Murry said.

The IMF is slated to come out with an update of its projections of Indias growth rate along with the rest of the world in January.

Major benefit of having cozy relation with US and UK is their mainstream media will follow up with timely biased articles.
Best example is biased articles published of Saudi crown Prince supporting anti corruption drive throughout US mainstream newspapers.
UN, IMF UNHRC NATO are all puppets of US Govt.

If demonetization had done so much good to people of India, the government did not have to beg people to link their Adhaar cards. The government is doing it because people are reluctant to link their adhaar to their transactions.

Why the government is extending the deadline ? It knows that the moment it exerts pressure, there will be revolts. People might withdraw whatever is deposited even at the risk of getting it stolen from homes. Can you imagine the state of nation's finance if that happens ? You are aware why the banks contemplated a strike - aren't you ?

Also, demonetization has put an impact on all day-to-day happenings. May it be marriages, properties, business entities and more. IMF does not come to peoples homes to check how happy are they.

A comment above yours is absolutely right - Modi who went to get a book written about himself by an author who never met him - can go to any length to get reports in his favour may it be IMF or WB
