Mangaluru: Students begin post card campaign for closure of bar near school

Mangaluru Dec 15: St Ann’s High School students started ‘Post card campaign’ here on Thursday December 14, demanding the closure of bar and restaurant located near their school at Kuntikana in city.

School administration claimed that the bar is 70-72 meters away from the school which is illegal.

“Bar is located within 100 metres prescribed limit from the school. This has created several problems. The students of our school have initiated to take out post card campaign and they are requesting children welfare department, deputy commissioner and chief minister for the closure of the bar and restaurant through this campaign,” said the school administration.

Earlier on December 7, St Ann’s High School students had opposed Mayor Kavitha Sanil from inaugurating the bar and restaurant. Kavitha Sanil had to return without inaugurating the bar. But the owners of the bar inaugurated the same and it has been operational since then.

    What i dont get is that what is the problem of having a bar near a school? If anybody is concerned that children will enter bar then dont allow them inside.

    look at that.. .how tough for students to stop a bar which is coming up illegally. Our system has gone so much screwed up that students has to struggle themselves to stop such a move. Shameful to our authorities and system. I have a suggestion or recommendation. Try out reaching Modi on this. I am sure nobody will be dared to go against that. Modi has responded all such issues , especially when it's done through students. Let it be a fight between Modi and all these state leadership who claims they are better than Modi. try to make this issue to reach Modi. I bet you will get a solution.

    Bar licenses are being issued flouting all rules and regulations.
    Only money talks when it comes to excise department at all levels.

    Bar owner would have paid huge money to the excise authorities and probably also to political masters.
    How can they now return the money?

    A very good approach. Appreciate the right approach and initiative by the students as well as the management of the School. We need to extend support and in fact, we need to take it forward and see that such things do not happen in our area also. If the city needs to be developed and improved, we need to get ourselves involved in good deeds, keeping aside all other differences; if any too, in the interest of the city and our next generation.

    Height of arrogance by MCC, district administration and the State government.
    Do these authorities care for the schools, childrens?
    Where is the Excise department which issues the license?
    Bar Owner might be a person who has close contact with the Political leaders in the city or may be the bar is of the Politician, who knows.... . If it was of a common man authorities might have closed it by now...
    We stand with the school administration & the students in this protest.
    What is the Mayor doing? Everyone use to say she is the Iron Lady, what happened now? In fact she went to inaugurate the Bar near the school premises, what a shame....

    Good inetiative. Really saddened by licensing authority of this bar. Bribe played a major role . In Bajpe also one bar opened near to rehabilitation center . I think excise department minting money by granting licenses .
