Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 15: After they were informed about the presence of a young couple from different religions at a lodge at Thokkottu junction near here, police personnel belonging to Ullal station raided the spot. However, the couple had vacated their room before the police arrived there.

The room was booked in the name of Riaz from Kasargod on the night of Wednesday December 13. The lodge has documentary evidence of his stay there. However, there is no information about the lady who accompanied Riaz, it is gathered.

A Hindu organization had come to know that the above couple was staying in the lodge at Thokkottu after which they had conveyed information to station house officer of Ullal. When the police raided the lodge on Thursday morning, they could not find the couple.

It is learnt that no case was registered relating to this incident.

looks like police is scared of these goondas to refuse these kind of cases, or police also supporting moral police, so that they can take rest.

After leaving employment, I tried 2-3 small businesses n Mumbai and lost quite some money. What will be my prospect, if I open a small lodge in Mangalore, exclusively for couples with a board "Only couples allowed, not necessarily married to each other"

I personally feel, since there is lot of restriction on Muslim girls, to find a girl from that community for this purpose, may be difficult.

The more the people try to guard their religion, the more people disobey it. Of late, incidents of inter-religious couples getting caught by moral police is increasing. It just shows that more and more girls are doing it willingly than being lured. So the moral police should now coil their tail and keep silent, or else they will be exposing their own community women.

In any business there is only money & service is bartered, nobody asks their clients religion to cater to their needs.
In this business if we go by previous raids & women caught & let all religious people do it. Money & lack of employment opportunities or easy money is the only motive.

Whom you blame for this ? The men from other community, the girls, or you the men yourself ?

A property is protected from being taken away. Protected by the owner. A hired person will go after the thief so that he will be praised for catching the thief. The owner will erect boundary around his property so that he doesn't regret later on.

Moral of the above is, look after your property by yourself, don't outsource it.

The raids in hotels are generally conducted by police suo moto or based on information, to detect forced child or adult prostitution or similar offences. Generally, other cases involving adults are not booked, unless the police officials support moral policing or take it as a chance to extract bribe as the persons involved will do anything to avoid social stigma which will do more damage than a legal case. If public is involved in the detection, the police will be forced to book them to avoid allegations. The custom is likely to continue till a more broad minded society and police evolve in India.

I ask these two questions to the couple, without keeping in mind either's religion.

    (1) The man can come to Thokkottu from Kasargod, why couldn't he go to the woman's house to stay ?
    (2) If at all his intention was to stay in a Lodge, why he did not stay in Kasargod and took the lady in with his parents' permission ?

I do feel angry for the interference of the group or even for the police for raiding a dodge. But, our girls too must think how they are drawn by men (again, irrespective of religion). You girls are letting us down by your liberal decisions that are derogatory, not of acclaim.

FYI, here is no law that prohibits unmarried couples from staying together in hotels. Choosing to stay together is a personal choice and falls under freedom of movement, which cannot be restricted”. Also while live-in relations were considered taboo for several decades, in 2013, the Supreme Court had sought to de-stigmatise relations outside matrimony by ruling that 'Live-in or marriage-like relationship is neither a crime nor a sin though socially unacceptable in this country'.

    Mr. rodrigues,

There is also no law that an organization must inform the police about a man and woman staying together in a lodge. Lodges are are business entities established for for people's stay, it should rather take action against the organization as well as the police.

Should you not have questioned the action of the police and the organisation instead ?

That is why, Mr. Rodrigues, we the inhabitants of the city live with certain adjustments. Law isn't always helping or applicable. Law for us is like an elephant's teeth - one for display and one for use.

Why hotel people give room without any ID proof. It has to made compulsory that if one male and female wants to stay in hotel room they have to produce id proof whether they married...It is running in cities

    Harish,

ID proof is not for letting the hotel/lodge know the religion of the person seeking accommodation. ID is for the purpose that illegal people don't get accommodation. At the same time, ID is not always genuine, fake IDs is not news anymore.

What the lodge has done is betrayal to its client. What authority the lodge has to give the name of the occupant to the organization ? At all they had informed the police because there was a look out notice on that name, its quite understandable. In this case, the lodge has erred from protecting the personal information of its guests.

Which organization will take action against this ?

    Mr. Jossey,
If the boys are not Muslims, then there won't be moral policing. No rescuing of girls. But, it's limited to only few places in india.

For instance in Itwari, Nagpur, ( Nagpur is the headquarters of RSS the father of all Sanghi parivar ) there is one of India's largest red light area. There is no discrimination of different communities. There is no rescuing of hindu girl. Rather they will force / push them to prostitution.

Besides above there are other 7 large such areas in India. Nobody is bothered no police no moral police. But, they will protect such areas benefit out of such business.

    Other places are:-
    Sonagachi, Kolkata
    Kamathipura, Mumbai
    Budhwar Peth, Pune
    Meergunj, Allahabad
    G.B. Road, Delhi
    Chaturbhujsthan, Muzaffarpur
    Shivdaspur, Varanasi
