Kasargod, Dec 14: A woman was found murdered and her husband in serious condition after thieves broke into their house at Chimeni near here on Wednesday, December 13.
The deceased is P V Janaki (65), a retired teacher, from Chimeni in Puliyannoor. Her husband Krishnan, also a retired teacher, was also attacked is said to be battling for life in a hospital in Mangaluru. Janaki was serving as headmistress at U P School, while Krishnan was a headmaster at L P School.
Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that a 3-member masked gang had committed the crime using lethal weapons to slit the throats of the couple after tying up their limbs. The attackers were said to be conversing in Malayalam and Hindi.
The investigation also revealed that the miscreants had robbed the gold worn by Janaki, and jewellery and Rs 50, 000 cash from the house.
Krishnan who regained consciousness was rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru who heard his cries. Janaki’s body was shifted to Periyaram hospital mortuary.
Police along with fingerprint experts and canine squad reached the spot and carried out further investigation. District superintendent of police G Simon, DySP K Damodaran and other senior police officers also visited the spot.
